Hello folks!

We're finally truly back 🤩. I know I said it last time, but this one is for real! I had to take some time off last year due to multiple health issues and was debating when to start posting again, but after seeing what happened in the Tailwind community this week, I decided the sooner the better!

Tailwind CSS completely changed my professional career as a web developer for the better, and I owe Adam and the Tailwind Labs team a great deal for that. I love Tailwind so much that I want more people to hear about it, and that's why I started this newsletter, so stay tuned to more posts this year 💌.

🌟 News

Tailwind Labs had a rough start to 2026, but the future is hopeful 🥹

Adam shared a super candid update about how AI has basically broken their old “docs -> discover paid stuff -> revenue” funnel, which forced them to make brutal layoffs (3 out of 4 engineers). After the emotional podcast, Adam shared an update clarifying that Tailwind isn’t in crisis mode or “needs saving” territory. The business is smaller now, but stable, comfortable, and buying itself time to experiment with new ideas like the partner program, which funds the framework more directly and feels way more resilient long-term.

They also shipped Oatmeal, their first multi-theme marketing kit for Tailwind Plus 🥣

Oatmeal is a new SaaS marketing site kit built with Tailwind CSS and Tailwind Plus Elements, and it’s way more flexible than a traditional template. You get multiple color palettes, font combinations, and a large set of composable sections you can mix and match to build exactly the site you need, or just start from the pre-built pages. If you’ve ever wanted a polished marketing site without locking yourself into one rigid design, this is a pretty compelling addition to the Tailwind Plus lineup.

📚 Learning

Color Shifting in CSS

This one goes way deeper than here’s a cool color animation. Josh breaks down why animating colors in CSS often feels a bit off, uncovers a couple of browser quirks you probably didn’t know existed, and then walks you through multiple ways to fix them. You’ll learn how color interpolation actually works, why HSL animations can look washed out, and how tricks like filter: hue-rotate() or typed CSS variables can allow for smoother, more natural-looking effects.

A gentle introduction to anchor positioning

This one is a really nice, low-friction intro to anchor positioning in CSS. If you’ve ever reached for JavaScript just to line up a dropdown, tooltip, or profile menu with another element, this article shows how you can now do a lot of that purely with CSS. It walks through the mental models, explains the new properties without overwhelming you, and does a great job showing when to use grids versus edge-based positioning. Even if you don’t adopt it right away, it’ll definitely change how you think about positioning UI elements going forward.

Responsive video is (almost) easy now

Great show of how far native <video> has come and why self-hosting is finally practical without nuking performance, especially by letting the browser switch between vertical and horizontal videos using multiple <source> tags and media queries. What’s great is that it goes past the cute demo and into real-world problems you’ll actually hit: compressing aggressively with WebM while keeping MP4 fallbacks, avoiding layout shift with aspect-ratio, why fullscreen won’t automatically upgrade to a higher-res source, and why posters are still oddly hard to make responsive. If you’ve ever wanted YouTube-level reliability but with full control over styling, CMS integration, and file size tradeoffs, this article shows you what you gain and what you’ll have to wrestle with to get there.
